The workshop will summarise state-of-the-art in the research of new materials for safeguarding of cultural heritage in order to improve and up-to-date mutual information about scientific achievements and capacity of research facilities in the pre-Accession to the EU countries and will support transition of this information to the EU countries as well as to the countries of Community’s external policy interests. It will help to select themes for medium term courses and joint or concerted research in this field and will gather data on relevant national and international funding possibilities. The workshop is aimed to influence cultural heritage research orientation and training of teachers necessary for a sound economic and social local or regional development. All this will be used for relevant networking and twinning arrangements and links among pre-Accession to the EU countries, as well as, between them and the EU countries in the area of cultural heritage research.
Because of deterioration of cultural and historic monuments caused by negative effects of environment and lack of systematic care, there are high demands on conservation and restoration of objects of cultural heritage.
The aim of the work package is a qualified development and testing of new or modified means and technologies for protection and restoration of selected materials of cultural and historic monuments. Products and materials will be comprehensive tested and compared to existing and traditional alternatives. The interaction between the old and new conservation materials and methods will be evaluated. Development will be aimed primarily on metallic materials and their protective systems of moveable and immovable objects of cultural heritage (cleaning, degreasing, deconservation, pasivation, inhibition and others).
Planned surveys of tested products with defined characteristics and technologies of application and methods for quality evaluation of conservation (restoration) will be reviewed. Scientific demonstration conservation on typical monuments will be considered and discussed, too.
The topics will further include traditional against new conservation materials, smart materials, composites for consolidation, materials for transfer or replicas of artistic objects, etc.
Workshop will deal with methods of parallel testing and evaluation of selected products and technologies, common demonstration, restoration projects.
